The cult of domesticity is a value system among social classes during the 19th century, this system stressed the woman's role within the home and the dynamics of work and family. "True women" were supposed to possess four crucial virtues compared to men: piety, purity, domesticity, and submissiveness.
As change is expected for a women in religion during this time period, many of the roles women had were to stay home and raise their children as well as pass down their religious aspects including teaching values for future generations and to act upon religious values in everyday life.
